From the beginning Mia from Cloak and Dagger games was an exceptional host; from solid communication in the run up to our game to being understanding and patient when our guests had technical difficulties with Zoom. In the lead up to the game we received a "clue sheet" which listed the suspect names and had space for note taking.

Once all of our guests were ready we were introduced to the background of the story by our Gamemaster Mia, the introduction was brief but engrossing and with that our adventure began. Stepping into a storm ridden cabin we find the characters have all been invited along by an anonymous host but not all is as it seems...

Although I cant discuss the experience in detail as I do not wish to give any spoilers we can say much like a lot of murder mysteries we had 4 main objectives:

1. Figure out who the murderer was...
2. Find the murder weapon...
3. Figure out the motive...
4. ESCAPE...

The general gameplay of this experience is similar to that of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign in that you take control of the in game character via your gamesmaster telling them exactly what you'd like to view and interact with.

The puzzles throughout the Cabin were well thought out with lots of links between rooms and objects; the gameplay itself flowed seamlessly between solving puzzles and finding new items to develop the story. Each puzzle element helped to drive the story forward and matched the theming perfectly. The difficulty of the puzzles was perfect, not too hard to the point we were needing clues but enough to make our brains work and give us some solid "aha" moments. The addition of the objectives brings another element to the game as you are no longer just smashing through puzzle after puzzle you have to take your time to analyse the finer details and story points to help solve the mystery. This game really highlights the necessity of looking everywhere in an escape room as some story details are very well hidden! Additionally there were some very nice subtle nods to the escape room industry within the rooms which as an enthusiast made me smile!

Overall this is a phenomenal experience for families and friends who aren't necessarily able to meet up in person (due to distance etc.) although we would advise sticking to a team of 3 or 4 players as often its easy for everyone to talk over each other. This game is also a perfect introduction for those who have yet to commit to an in person escape room!
